Why seals and installation deserve attention

Ask about the complete opening

A glazing specification is only part of the proposal. Identify the frame system, opening style, closure hardware and seals. Ask how the frame meets the surrounding opening and what sealing or finishing work is included.

A drawing or sample can help explain the intended arrangement. It should be labelled as a proposed detail, not presented as proof of a completed project or a certified result.

Describe visible issues without dismantling

• Does the window close normally, or is a panel difficult to operate?
• Are there visible gaps, damaged seals or loose fittings?
• Has the sound changed recently, and were any fittings or finishes changed?
• Could another door or opening be contributing?

These observations help an enquiry; they do not diagnose a defect. Keep inspections to safe, accessible positions. Leave disassembly and safety-critical adjustments to the appropriate professional.

Put installation detail in the quote

Ask who installs the system, what removal and protection are included, and how sealing and making good are addressed. Establish how unexpected site conditions and variations will be agreed.

Where a performance report is supplied, compare its complete configuration with the proposed installation. A report for a different assembly should not silently become the rating of your finished window.

Check ordinary operation at handover

Ask for a demonstration of the intended opening and closing sequence, handles, locks and cleaning access. Check the completed work against the agreed scope and record any follow-up items.

Request the actual maintenance and service instructions for the installed system. Use the handover and care checklist to organise those questions.
